During production meetings, the team determined that the flooring on the main street needs to be three-dimensional and textured. With the audience a few feet away from the acting area, this texturing and elevation are necessary to create a more immersive experience.

The lead designer assigned me to determine the tiling pattern for the street. I took inspiration from the Rue Cler: Market Street in Paris and recreated the circular patterns and duo-tone colors.

Tiles themselves are rough strand boards cut into shape and pieced together to form the patterns.

I was assigned the task of designing and drafting the three street lamps. I drew heavily from the existing street lamps on Paris’ street while reducing complexity to accommodate the shop’s capacity to produce the scenic piece practically.

The shape of the lamp is made of insulation foam board turned and sanded to shape. Each lamp has a 2-inch steel tube running down the center as both support and pathway for power and DMX cables for the light inside.

A performer climbs into the trash can in a scene. Thus, the cart must be structurally stable and balanced to stand upright with a person’s weight.

The cart is designed and drafted by me and fabricated in the scene shop. I also applied the painting and weathering to add textures.
